Non-Traditional Scholarship Program

HCE recognizes that acquiring a job and staying competitive in the workplace includes showing employers you have the skills, knowledge and experience to get the job done.  Returning to or starting college along with learning a new trade is required in many cases.  This is why HCE is proud to offer up to two $1,000 scholarships per year to adult learners attending college or a trade school for the purpose of educational training to improve their career opportunities.  

Scholarships Awarded: Up to two (2) $1,000 scholarships

Criteria To Apply:

  • Must receive HCE electrical service at home address.
  • Must be pursuing training in a certified trade, profession or technical program school, or a two-year or four-year degree program institution.
  • Must be 25 years or older.

Award Selection Criteria: Personal statement that includes the following information:

  • Explain how education path was interrupted or postponed
  • Statement explaining desire to further education
  • What degree/certification they are pursing
  • Estimated timeframe to complete education
  • Estimated total educational costs to complete degree/certification
  • How the funds would be utilized towards earning their degree/certification

Application Due: 7/1

Awards Announced: By 8/1

Awards Processed: Students will complete a check request on HCE's website upon the completion of their first school term following verification of the student’s grade report at the accredited college, university, or vo-tech school and confirmation that the student has maintained a grade point average of 2.0 or higher or completed the certification.  Students must submit a copy of their first term’s grade report to HCE.

Personal statement must include the following information:

  • Explain how education path was interrupted or postponed

  • Estimated timeframe to complete education
  • Estimated total educational costs to complete degree/certification
  • How the funds would be utilized towards earning their degree/certification
