SCHOLARSHIPS

Education is one of the seven cooperative principles, and it’s something we truly value at Hill County Electric. Each year, we offer scholarship opportunities to support our members and their families as they pursue higher education or training. Our Trustees are continually impressed by the quality of applications and the achievements of the students who apply. Explore the scholarship opportunities below.

MECA Memorial Scholarship - $500

Deadline: January 15th

Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association (MECA), of which we are a member of, awards one $500 scholarship each year. This award is open to students planning to attend college as an undergraduate in the fall who are an HCE member/member dependent.

In Addition: HCE is pleased to offer up to a $500 member dependent scholarship. Students applying for the MECA Scholarship will automatically be entered for consideration.

Basin Electric Scholarship - $1,250

Deadline: January 15th

Each year, we award two $1,250 scholarships from Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Winners will be selected based on academic record, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience. 

This award is open to  high school seniors or graduates who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school who are an HCE member/member dependent.

In Addition: HCE is pleased to offer up to a $500 member dependent scholarship. Students applying for the Basin Scholarship will automatically be entered for consideration.

HCE Tell Us Your Story Scholarship - $1,000

Deadline: March 1

For students who want to share their story and goals for the future. Tell us how this scholarship will help you reach your dreams. Be sure to specifically include the following: What is your need for this particular scholarship and what goal are you trying to achieve by attending college?

Lineman Workforce Development Scholarship - $1,000

Deadline: March 1

For students in one of the five counties served by Hill County Electric who plan to attend an accredited lineman school and build a career right here in Montana.

Trade School Scholarship - $500

Deadline: March 1

For members or dependents pursuing their first accredited trade school program, including fields like automotive, construction, welding, electrical, or other skilled trades. Qualifying trade school programs are Agricultural Mechanics Technology, Automotive Technology, Building/Construction, Design Drafting Technology, Diesel Technology, Electrical Technology, Metals Manufacturing, Pipefitting, Plumbing Technology, Trades Management and Welding Technology.

Preference is given to students attending MSU-Northern and Stone Child College.

Non-Traditional Scholarship - $1,000

Deadline: July 1st

For adult learners returning to school or pursuing new training to advance their careers.

Scholarships Awarded: Up to two $1,000 scholarships.

Member & Member Dependent "Luck of the Draw" Scholarships

(2 - $500; 1 - $300; 1 - $200)
Members and member dependents enrolled or planning to enroll in the fall at an accredited college pursuing an undergraduate degree are invited to attend the annual meeting and enter the drawing to win one of the "Luck of the Draw" scholarships to be awarded at the annual meeting. To be eligible for the scholarship drawing, complete the Luck of the Draw form and attend the annual meeting. Member dependents must be accompanied by a parent who is a member of HCE. Those eligible students not winning a Luck of the Draw scholarship will receive a $100 scholarship just for attending!

Teacher Appreciation Program - $1,500 (renewable)

Deadline: March 1

For current or incoming teachers working in a Class B or smaller school district within HCE’s service area.
