This month’s note is going to be a little different for me. What a crazy weather year! It seems that we started in a drought, moved to some wet weather, but not enough to take us out of the drought and now we are back to grasshopper weather; hot and covered in grasshoppers. You may have noticed a Demand graph on your June bill. Demand refers to the maximum amount of electrical power that is being consumed at a given time. At this time, Hill County Electric is NOT charging a demand charge. The new graph gives our members an idea of their demand usage each month. The bill example at right includes an explanation of the charges on your monthly bill. Please contact our billing department if you have any questions.

Eighty-seven years ago on May 11th, 1935, President Franklin Roosevelt created the Rural Electrification Administration (REA). On that same day, a co-op in Mississippi became the first REA-financed co-op in the country to energize its lines. In November 1939, Mrs. Roosevelt hosted a few visitors for tea.
